Welcome to the home of the Essex Blades
Welcome to the home of the Essex Blades. An American Football team that has been running since the year 2000 and has had many successes in that time. The Essex Blades are one of the flagship sports teams for the University of Essex, which is based in Colchester. We are currently playing in the BUAFL (British Universities American Football League) Southern Conference.
American Football is the major sport in America and has been for many years. In the more recent years this interest has moved across the pond over to Europe and in particular Britain. With the creation of leagues such as NFL Europe being created the high interest in the sport was clear and has only continued to rise. In 1985 the BCAFL (British Collegiate American Football League) was created and ran its first season with just 4 teams made up by players from various Universities and Colleges. In 2007 this league folded, which sparked the creation of BUAFL, which is the current league for University teams.
American Football has been played for many years and is becoming more and more popular every year in the UK. Playing it in a University is a great way to get some exercise, experiance the ups and downs of a sports team, meet new people and have a great social life.
The Essex Blades are currently recruiting and would like to welcome any person regardless of size, age or interest to come and try out for the Essex Blades. Over the first few weeks of the University Year, the Blades will hold some come and try sessions where anyone is free to come along and learn more about the sport and the team.
